The Evolution of the Résumé

The résumé has evolved over the years, and especially in the last 5 years. Gone are the days of applying with a generic résumé and hoping that your skills will be noticed. What was once a document that detailed all of your work history in chronological order, has transformed entirely. In 2022, your résumé must be strategically and methodically planned out to not only capture the eyes of hiring managers, but to speak directly to the positions for which you are applying and get you through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and emerging AI software.

The Importance of an ATS Compliance

Did you know that 99% of Fortune 500 companies, 66% of large companies, 55% of hiring managers, and 35% of small to mid-size companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to vet résumés in order to accelerate and automate the hiring process?

ATS is an algorithm-based technology that scans résumés for keywords and matches them to job postings. If your résumé doesn't match up with recruiter job postings, your résumé may never get through ATS and in front of a human being.

Unfortunately, the importance of ATS and how the hiring market has changed is not common knowledge, making efforts in landing an interview futile.

Résumé Goat creates interview-winning résumés that are proven to get you noticed by hiring managers, pass you through ATS, and land you interviews!

What about an Infographic Résumé?

While infographic résumés were popular several years ago and are no doubt aesthetically striking, I recommend avoiding this type of resume. Since the rise of ATS and AI software (Artificial Intelligence), I've started designing ATS-Friendly Hybrid Résumés, a happy medium for people who want something a little more design-centric, but still want to pass ATS. After all, at the end of the day, it's a human (a hiring manager) who we really need to impress, and that's where an ATS-Friendly Hybrid Résumé really shines.

ATS-FRIENDLY Hybrid Résumé = win-win

Did you know that on average, hiring managers look at résumés for 7 seconds the first pass, 30 seconds the second pass, and only 2 minutes the third time around?

That means résumés now have to be very pointed and specific to the job for which you're applying. Not only that, but they also have to be designed in such a way that helps the right information pop off the page and catch the eyes of the hiring manager. In this fast-paced TikTok age, is that any surprise?

Depending on your line of work, you may be best suited for my ATS-Friendly Hybrid Résumé, which combines ATS-friendly verbiage and creative design. An ATS-Friendly Hybrid Résumé is highly effective at getting you noticed and making a memorable impression in a stack of hundreds of other applicants.
